It’s true, GottaswingCharlotte is bringing in the JIVE ACES, Britain’s number 1 Swing band on Sunday, Dec 9 for their only performance in the Southeast. The last time they were here they performed at a Charlotte Shout event and Charlotte fell in love with them so there’s no doubt tickets will go quick when they are made available. Mark your calendars now and plan on attending. We’ll make sure there’s room for lots of dancers.

Dancing is available in Rock Hill at Studio 1 Talent every 2nd Friday of the month. This dance will be swing plus other ballroom styles as well. There will be refreshments and snacks every dance plus you may bring your own wine!

Saturday, Feb 9, 50th Annual Heart Ball with Big Swing and the Ballroom Blasters

The 50th Annual Greater Charlotte Heart Ball will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the Charlotte Convention Center. The theme of the evening is Heart of Gold with lots of glitz, glamour and sparkle, including an incredible silent auction and cocktail reception, red carpet photographs, a gourmet dinner, live auction and dancing to the music of Big Swing and the Ballroom Blasters. This is the oldest and largest black tie event in the metro area raising more than $725,000 for cardiovascular research, education and advocacy programs.

Thursday, Feb 14, Valentines Day “Sweets and Swing” Dance with The Charlotte Jazz Band

If you already have a valentine, this will give you the opportunity to have a wonderful dinner at your favorite restaurant with your valentine….. then join GottaswingCharlotte afterwards at The Ivey for dessert and swing the night away. If you don't already have a valentine, come early and swing all night long-you just might meet one!

The Charlotte Jazz Band played for the GottaswingCharlotte “Swingle Bell Ball” in December and the dancers enjoyed them so much that they gave them a standing ovation and got one more song out of them. We are thrilled not only to have a fantastic band but to be having this event at a wonderful new venue. The Ivey is a spectacular new 11,000-square-foot adult daycare facility designed to resemble a comfy country lodge or country club and is located just South of the South Park Mall.

(The Ivey is located on Park South just south of Fairview by South Park Mall. It’s the 3rd driveway on the right after turning onto Park South from Fairview Road.)

Hosted by Lovin’ Lindy. We heard your request to have dances on the weekend, so we've taken the initiative to get them back here in Charlotte! Join us for our inaugural Saturday night dance on February 23, 2008 at Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church's gym.

Beginner lesson is at 7:30 - 8:00 and is FREE with paid admission to the dance. Dance starts at 8:00 PM. We are finalizing the details now on time and music, so be on the lookout for an update email with all the details, including cover. But save the date!

Then, in March, mark your calendar for every THIRD SATURDAY of the month. We'll meet in the same place, same time. We are thrilled to bring you weekend entertainment! The swing scene can only thrive by having dancers come out to the dancers, so be sure to come and support the scene! Practice makes perfect, and social dancing is tons of fun.

MONDAYS - Bill Hanna's Vintage Dance Band at Grand Central Events
A smoke free location (with a separate cigar room for those who must smoke)
Remember the old Swing 1000? This is the same place, just a different name. Grand Central will be hosting Monday dancing with this fabulous band led by Bill Hanna. The band is stocked with seasoned professionals like Dr. John Harding and talented college musicians. Enjoy dancing to the sound of 5 saxes, 4 trombones, 4 trumpets and lots more. There will be alcohol, soda and hors d'oeuvres available for purchase at this event. You can come even if you aren't 21 but can't purchase or consume alcohol.

Please remember the cover you pay at the door goes to pay the 19 band members. The venue only makes money if you purchase a drink or food item. If the venue doesn't turn a profit, the event won't be able to continue.

Joe and Denise Polsgrove have been dancing together since 2001 and are known by their high energy dancing and performances that make you want to get out of your seat and onto the dance floor. Because Denise was a nationally ranked gymnast, you are just as likely to see her in the air as on the floor as they dance. They are often seen around the Charlotte, Fort Mill and Rock Hill area at community and private events, fund raisers, parades, weddings, WWII dances, Rockabilly BBQs and more either dancing, teaching dance, DJing or all of the above. They share their love of dancing with the community by offering lessons that are made easy and fun even for those with two left feet so others in the community can join them in this wonderful social activity.

For this venue wear shoes that are smooth/slick bottomed, non-marking & most importantly give a little cushion (insoles help).

This class will give you a good foundation to start dancing socially. It focuses on the mother-dance of historical African American vernacular social dances; Savoy-style Lindy Hop. You will learn the eight count basic swing-out, the Lindy circle, inside & outside turns, sugar pushes & more.

This class requires a working knowledge of 101 concepts. It will refine your musicality & partner connection for the social dance floor along with adding to your repertoire of moves.

This class has restricted registration. It requires one year of social Lindy Hop or one year of Lindy Hop classes or permission from the instructor (please contact her zwhittaker@gmail.com). This class is high impact.
